Hey Obama

Stop campaigning and do your job! I may not have voted for you, but my tax dollars are paying your salary. And what are you doing? You're frigging campaigning, claiming to be for "change". Sounds like you only care about more "change" being put in your pocket for a higher office. Before you look for a promotion, you should try to fulfill your current job's responsibilities. You are not entitled to not be "present".

Special thanks to McCain for realizing he still has responsibilities, while looking for a promotion.

Hey McCain, you're not special. You never paid attention to the economy before, stop grand standing and let people who actually know what they're doing handle it.

But kudos for you for figuring out a way to score political points for pulling out of a debate you probably weren't prepared for.

But what has Obama done for the economy, other than point fingers at the Bush Administration?

At least McCain tried to pass a bill in '05 to provide oversight to the Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac situation..

Obama hasn't done a damn thing for the economy either, which is why neither he, McCain, nor the political circus that follows them needed to transplant themselves into the middle of what has now unsurprisingly become a bit of a mess.

Being that one of them is going to be the next president of the United States, I think it is very important that they both be immersed in the meetings/discussions/bill-writing that they will be PRAYING improves the economic situation for the Americans that they will be serving.

Even if they aren't dictating the policy themselves (it is generally agreed that neither is an expert), they should both be listening, focusing, and absorbing as much as possible.

The debates can happen any time between now and November 2nd. This bailout bill is happening NOW.

In an ideal world, sure... but this is Washington. Bipartisan compromises rarely start with ultimatums through the media.

McCain is a smart enough guy to realize that by making a announcement that he's going back to Washington to work on the bailout deal and that Obama ought to follow him that he's created a political incentive for the Democrats not to compromise. It would have been the same if Obama tried.

The senate that's currently calling him an obstruction the deal making progress is the same senate that he would have to deal with as president. I'd like to see him demonstrate some ability to get things done in that climate, and he's not off to a good start.

You mean the democrat-controlled senate? They consider any republican president (or republican presidential candidate) an "obstruction". ;-)

The media was blasting McCain for skipping an interview with Letterman. Imagine what the same media would have done had he appeared on Letterman and had a few chuckles while this crisis was happening. McCain can't win in that regard. My only beef was that he just should have said "This isn't a good time to stop by and have a laugh, let's do this after the crisis" instead of "I'm running immediately to washington" when that wasn't exactly true

Yeah... when you cancel an interview with a late night talk show host to "go to Washington," make sure they don't find out you're actually still in New York doing an interview with Katie Couric instead. This tends to make them angry.
