Adventures in Voting

I successfully voted this evening. There were a few independents trying to vote (you can't do that) and the same old lady who almost marked me last November as someone else was working one of the tables. She assumed I was in the Democrat book without asking and then proceeded to tell me I'm not in there. When I told her I was a registered Republican, she was like "Oh...you need to go over there." So I scoot over and give my name to a woman who is actually not blind and sign my name...No ID check what so ever... She then hands me a pink card and tells me to hand it to another old lady who will put it in the machine. I hand the card obediently and step in the booth. I try to pull the level to close the curtain..nothing..I try again..nothing... so I step out and the woman with a shaky hand gives me the nod to try again. Success! I scan the ballot. The names are spaced out weirdly... I find the candidate I intend to cast my vote for... Take a deep breath..and flick it down. I pull the lever to open the curtain. All done!

Relatively smooth..but the incompetence I see in the volunteers who run the polls always scare me...

Check out this guy's story.

At my precinct, the volunteers are all rather elderly ladies; a little slow, but not incompetent. And the church ladies serve cookies and coffee. Not only that... the church is like 200 feet from my front door. Very convenient... and tasty too. ;)
